What are bridges?

Bridges are an indirect restoration that is intended to replace a missing tooth. In doing so, we will use the tooth in front and in back of the space as anchors to support the prosthesis. Similar to a crown, a bridge is cemented in place upon delivery and remains fixed in your mouth. The appointment length for a bridge is generally about 2 hours and completed under local anesthetic.

Advantages?

Bridges are a highly aesthetic option for replacing a missing tooth. The process of receiving a bridge is generally quicker than that of an implant and substantially cheaper.

Disadvantages?

Placing a bridge requires preparation of the teeth adjacent to the tooth that is being replaced. Since a bridge is a unit that is connected, it makes it more difficult to floss and keep clean. If a bridge fails, the entire unit needs to be replaced.
