What is an implant?
An implant is a restoration that is intended to replace a missing tooth. The titanium implant is placed below the gumline and anchored into the jaw bone. Once healing ensues, an implant crown is placed to replicate the missing tooth. Implants are the optimal method for replacing a missing tooth because it doesn’t require preparation of any adjacent teeth. However, not every patient is an ideal candidate for an implant. If you have extensive bone loss at the site of the missing tooth, it makes it more difficult to place a proper functioning/appearing implant.
